Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about OneActionStep
How does the credit system work?
You stake credits on your goals instead of money. If you complete your goal by the deadline, you keep your credits. If you fail, those credits are lost forever.
You start with 40 free credits. You can purchase additional credits voluntarily if you want to stake higher amounts on your goals. All credit purchases are processed securely through Stripe.
Important: When you have multiple active goals, we charge 1 credit per goal to maintain your active commitments. This helps us ensure we can cover the costs of providing this service.
What happens if I fail to complete my goal?
If you don't mark your goal as complete before the deadline, your staked credits are lost. This creates the accountability that helps you succeed on your goals.
The credit system is designed to motivate success. We succeed when you succeed - the more you achieve your goals, the more credits you keep and the more likely you are to continue using the platform.
Can I cancel a goal after creating it?
No, you cannot cancel a goal once it's created. This is intentional - the whole point is accountability. If you could easily cancel, there would be no real commitment.
You have two options: complete your goal before the deadline, or forfeit your committed amount. This creates the financial pressure needed to follow through on your commitments.
What if I have a legitimate emergency?
We understand that life happens. If you experience a genuine emergency (medical, family, etc.), please email us at admin@oneactionstep.com immediately. We review each case individually and may provide extensions or refunds in exceptional circumstances.
However, we're careful to distinguish between genuine emergencies and convenient excuses, as the latter would undermine the accountability system for everyone.
How much should I commit to my goal?
Choose a number of credits that would genuinely hurt to lose, but won't exhaust your credit balance. The key is finding your personal "motivation sweet spot."
Start smaller for your first goal to test the system, then increase the credits for future goals as you build confidence in your ability to follow through.
Can I change my payment method?
Payment methods are used only for purchasing additional credits voluntarily. There are no automatic charges or subscriptions. You can manage your payment methods in your account settings when purchasing credits.
What types of goals work best?
OneActionStep works best for specific, time-bound actions rather than ongoing habits. Examples:
- "Complete my tax return by March 31st"
- "Apply to 10 jobs by Friday"
- "Finish reading this book by Sunday"
- "Go to the gym 3 times this week"
- "Call my parents every day for 7 days"
The key is making goals binary (you either did it or you didn't) with clear completion criteria.
Is this a subscription service?
No, there are no monthly fees or subscriptions. You start with 40 free credits and can optionally purchase more. Note that we charge 1 credit per goal when you have multiple active goals to help us cover costs. The credit system makes accountability accessible while maintaining the motivation you need to succeed.
How do I prove I completed my goal?
Currently, OneActionStep uses an honor system. You simply click "Mark as Complete" when you finish your goal. We're working on photo verification and other proof methods for future versions.
The honor system works because you've staked real credits on the line. Cheating would only cheat yourself out of the accountability you paid for.
